ハンクだ、居場所を特定されないようにしなきゃならず、安全を確保するために投稿を数日は贈らせなくちゃならない。そのためにも今していることには触れないようにすべきで、代わりにアフガニスタンのサーティンマグナス・ネストで新たなシミュラクラとして出現してからのことを書いておこうか。

ネストで目覚めてすぐにそこが洞窟だとわかったよ。初めて命を落としたときの最後の記憶がこの場所だったんだ。それ以後の記憶は何もかもなくなっていたけどね。

次に気づいたのは、僕の本当の身体だったね。隣に横たわっていたよ、変わらぬ状態でね。覚えていてほしいんだけど、今はリカージョンが可能だってことさえ記憶にないんだ。そういった情報は前回のサイクルで全て失われてしまったんだよ。リカージョンしてから手掛かりをつなぎ合わせようとはしているんだけどね。それを踏まえれば、僕が自分の死体を見てどんな反応をしたかはわかってもらえるんじゃないかな。前回のシミュラクラが死体を見たときにも、よく似た反応をしていたよ。もちろん、映像を観たから知ってるんだけどね。

死体を持って行こうかとも考えたけど、成人男性の身体を担いで砂漠を越えることになるからね。それと、アノマラスゾーンにあること以外に遺体の腐敗が進行しない方法があるのかは今も知らないよ。それに、偶然に誰かが見つけるようなこともないしね。

洞窟はもぬけの殻だったけれど、不思議と孤独を感じることはなかった。何か別の存在を感じ取れたし、周囲の空気はエネルギーを帯びてパチパチと爆ぜているかのようだった。目の端に何かが映ったように思えた。幻覚を無視することもできない。説明のしようもない様々なことをそれから数時間にわたって見ることとなる。

Waking Up in the Cave

Hank here. Have to be careful not to give out my location, so I'll be delaying entries by a couple of days, should help keep me safe. And I guess a good way to do that is to not tell you just yet what I'm up to right now, and instead fill you in on what I've been up to since my new Simulacrum came online in that 13MAGNUS Nest in Afghanistan.

When I woke up in the Nest, I recognized the cave immediately. This place was one of the last things I remembered from before I died the first time. Everything after that was gone.

The next thing I noticed was my real human body, lying on the ground next to me, perfectly preserved. Bear in mind, I had no memory at this point that Recursion was even possible. All of that information was lost in the last cycle (though I've obviously pieced some of it together since). So you can imagine how I reacted to finding my own dead body. It was actually a lot like how my previous Simulacrum reacted to finding the body the last time. Which, of course, I only know about because I've now seen the video.

I suppose I could have taken the body with me... but you try lugging an adult male through a desert. Plus, to this day I still have no idea if my body being in the Anomalous Zone is the only reason it hasn't been decaying. And it's not like anybody's in danger of stumbling across it.

The cave was empty, and yet I did not feel alone... I felt the presence of others and the atmosphere seemed to be crackling with energy... I thought I saw things out of the corner of my eye. I can't rule out hallucinations. I would see many things over the next few hours that defied explanation...
