リカージョン・アノマリーでハンク・ジョンソンがテキサス州クロスプレインズへ向かった理由に、H.P.ラグクラフトとロバート・E・ハワードとでやりとりされていた書簡の入手があると挙げたときのことを思い出してほしい。さて、話はそこで終わりではない。諸君もハワードの「英雄コナン」やラグクラフトのクトゥルフ神話は読んだことがあるだろう。だが、P.アーヴィン・ハウクラフトの作品を読んだことはあるだろうか。詠んだことはないだろう、ハウクラフトなんて存在しないのだからね！少なくとも特定の人物を指す名ではなかったよ。

ハワードが悲劇的な死を迎えたのち、ラヴクラフトは亡き友にして仲間であった男の未発表作品を手に入れたようだ。ラヴクラフトはその内の幾つかを最後まで書きあげたと考えられるが、自らの名で世に出すことは憚って二人の名を掛け合わせた「ハウクラフト」というペンネームで出版した。

ハウクラフトの作品を手に入れるのは非常に困難で、今回紹介する作品も少し前にポータルネットワークを介して手に入れたものだ。この作品に関して言わねばならないことは数多くあるんだが、そこにムクタル・アズマティの名があるね。ハンク・ジョンソンの友人であるアズマティの系譜を紐解いていけば、ムクタルの名が見つかるに違いない。アズマティは自らがサーティンマグナス結社の一員であると認めているし、アズマティの一族は何世代にもわたって関わってきたと言及している。この作中でムクタルと敵対しているジャハナイトが何者なのかはわからない。ハウクラフトの創作という可能性もあるが、そうは思えないね。

したがって、タイコの作品でわかったように、ハウクラフトの「小説」も実際の未来を記録したものの可能性が高いだろう。

Stranger Than Fiction - Part 2
Remember when I mentioned that one of the reasons Hank Johnson went to Cross Plains, Texas, during the Recursion Anomaly was to acquire lost correspondence between authors HP Lovecraft and Robert E Howard? Well, the story doesn't end there. Sure, you've read Howard's work on "Conan the Barbarian," and Lovecraft's Cthulhu mythos... but have you read the works of P. Ervin Howcraft? I'm guessing you didn't... because Howcraft didn't exist! Or, at least, he wasn't just one person.

After Howard's tragic death, it appears that Lovecraft got his hands on some unfinished, unpublished work from his late friend and colleague. I suspect Lovecraft put the finishing touches on some of these pieces himself, but didn't want to take full credit for the works, so he published them under the nom de plume "Howcraft," a portmanteau of both authors' names.

Howcraft pieces are actually real tough to come by, the one I'm about to post appeared mysteriously in the Portal Network a while back. Lot of things to say about this one. It mentions a Maktar Azmati. And I bet if we look far back enough in Hank Johnson's friend Azmati's family tree, we'd find a Maktar in that lineage. Azmati has copped to being a member of the 13MAGNUS cult, and said the entire Azmati clan had been for generations. I don't know who the Jahanites are that Maktar is going up against in this Howcraft piece. It's possible Howard made them up... but I'd be surprised.

The pages also mention the Recursion Artifacts by name, long before the term for XM "Recursion" would be coined. So it seems likely that, like Tycho's work turned out to be, the Howcraft "fiction" is a chronicle of actual future events.
