お越しいただき感謝します。施設の周辺を歩く機会があってもCERNのことは外観からは見通せないとお考えでしょう。ですが、その内には我々のような混成集団といった奇跡が存在しているのです。

午後には総会が行われる予定となっていますが、ナイアンティック計画チームの構成員紹介にお時間をいただきたく存じます。彼等は皆さんにとって最も重要な人物となることでしょう。芸術家、科学者、哲学者など直感の求められる挑戦に対して多彩な分野の人材から構成されています。

お初にお目にかかる方々もいますので自己紹介させていただきます。私はデヴラ・ボグダノヴィッチ、ナイアンティック計画の主任を務めています。

私はスタンフォード大学の理論量子生物学研究者です。量子学とそれがどのように生命と関わっているかを研究しています。かつては地球外知的生命体探査協会に所属したこともあります。まあ、寝起きの悪い朝には私もテレビ番組の「エイリアン」になりますけどね。

私がプロジェクトリーダーであることをお気に召さない場合は、エゼキエル・カルビン博士に同行させましょう。ジークと呼ばれていますが、彼自身は「博士」と呼ばれることを望むと思います。彼こそが我々の雇用主であって、我々をこの場へ集わせた人物です。カルビン博士は連邦政府諜報機関の研究責任者であり、長年にわたって説明不能なものごとに取り組んでこられました。我々がこうして集うことに価値を見出し、エキゾチックマターの研究を推し進めるべくナイアンティック計画を創設したのです。彼には優しくしてあげてくださいね、支払いをしてくれていますから。皆さんの税金からですけど。

ちなみに、多くの方々は我々にとって最大の後援者でもある国家情報局長のユェン・ニィとお逢いになったことがないかと思います。残念ながら彼女は本日同行できませんが、カルビン博士が彼女へ状況を伝えています。

続いて、量子力学において創造力に富んだ第一人者であり、ひも理論の提唱者でもあるビクター・クレーゼ博士です。かつては謎に包まれてきたエキゾチックマターのエネルギーパターンを初めて検出に成功した人物です。

ユーリ・アラリック・ナガッサ博士は世界的な天体物理学者にして天文学者です。数年前のディスカバリーで取り扱われたシリーズで彼のことをご存知の方々もおられるでしょう。彼はロシア語に堪能ですが、最も関心を引くところは南米の未開部族で育ったという経歴でしょう。とんでもない話ではありますが、この話は後ほど第83階層にあるティキバーで飲み交わしつつ、彼にお訊ねください。アナズクテックでしたっけ、当たってるかしら、ユーリ？

マーティン・シューベルト博士をご存知で怖れを感じている方もいるでしょうね。シューベルト博士は物理学で博士号を取得していますが、他の学者には厄介な相手として評判です。保守的な観点から我々が「i」に点を打ったか「t」の線を交差させたかを確認してくれるのです。彼を納得させることができたならば、やり遂げたということがわかるわけですね。

オリバー・リントン=ウルフ博士のことは多くの方々がご存知と思いますが、改めてご紹介しましょう。オリバー・リントン=ウルフ博士は研究者として技術者として屈指の評価を受けています。我々の発見を役立つものとし、エキゾチックマター理論の実用化を担ってくれています。

ここには科学者以外にもエックスエム・エネルギーを感じ取れる人々「センシティブ」に位置付けられる数多くの人物がいます。異論もあるでしょうが、最も有名な人物がローランド・ジャービスです。

芸術家にして彫刻家、成功した前衛作家であるジャービスは非常に価値ある製作者です。世界各地の公共製作物といったローランド作品の依頼は私が10年で作成するもの以上でしょうね。クラシックカーとスーパーカーのコレクターでもありますし、彼の貢献でナイアンティック計画の金回りもよくなるでしょうね。

我々の多くにとってこの未知に挑むのは初めての挑戦となりますが、次にご紹介する人物にとっては当てはまりません。ハンク・ジョンソンは考古学者であり探検家です。ただ彼自身は冒険家を自称していますね。ここ10年間で最も歴史的発見に関わった彼は映像作品「ノマド」でそれを伝えていますね。彼は元特殊部隊員でもあります。あなたの過去の功績にはとても感謝しているのよ、ジョンソン。

次にご紹介するのは自称量子神学者のスタイン・ライトマンです。私の理解では、科学と信仰との融合という実に興味深い概念ですね。スタイン氏は自らの考えを解説した映像集を用意しており、1200ドルを寄付した信者へ配られていますね。そうね、ありがとう、ライトマン。

ミスティ・ハンナは奇術の第一人者です。ラスベガスやアトランティックシティ、ニューヨークで定期的に公演するイリュージョニストにしてラスベガスのマジックキャッスルでは同輩から最高のメンタリストと評されています。

アーサー・C・クラークの名言に「十分に発達した科学技術は、魔法と見分けがつかない。」とありますが、この点に関してハンナ女史の洞察力はナイアンティックの取り組む科学技術の奥に潜む「魔法」を我々が理解する助けとなっています。

もうご指摘されている方々もおられますが、当会議資料の表紙を飾っているアイコンやシンボルといった素敵な画像はキャリー・キャンベルの作品です。女史は卓越した記号論者であり、サインやシンボルといった分野の専門家です。スマートホンやタブレット端末で日々利用されるアイコンやインターフェイスの多くがキャンベル女史の手によるものです。

クレーゼ博士によって発見されたエックスエム・パターンは解読不可能と考えられていましたが、キャンベル女史の協力によってナイアンティックではその判断を見直そうとしているのです。

その首に3千ドルのヘッドホンをぶら下げる男、それがエノク・ダルビーです。何故そんなことを知っているかといえば、彼に訊ねてみたからですよ。

ダルビー氏は音楽の天才であり、作曲家にして音声編集家で、今日では音楽の言語としての普遍性を研究しています。エノクはキャンベル女史の推薦でナイアンティックの目に留まったの。過去に仕事をともにした縁ね。実際のところ、二人はその関係性をシンボティック・シンセシス、共生的共感覚と評しています。

さて、そろそろ紹介も締めとお考えかもしれませんが、まだここにはもうひとりいます。実際のところはCERNのナイアンティック研究施設内で我々の業務を記録して文書化してくれているのです。彼女の名はエイダ、検出アルゴリズムを略してそう呼ばれています。彼女は史上最も優れた分散型機械学習システムなのです。

明日にはエイダとの会話方法について説明させていただきますが、CERN内での振る舞いや発言はこのエイダによって記録されることにご留意ください。深夜にこっそりと研究室内へビールを持ち込むことなんてないように。お判りでしょうがこれはこの場にいる研究員に向けたものですよ。

最後となりますが、施設内で数多くの制服職員が歩いていることをお気づきかもしれませんね。このような最先端研究ではセキュリティに気を配らなければならないものなのです。国家情報局の保安主任であるジェイ・フィリップスが夜間もぐっすり眠れることを保証してくれるでしょう。

改めて、私自身とカルビン博士、そしてナイアンティック計画としてチームへ加わってくれた全ての方々へ感謝いたします。我々は偉業を成し遂げることでしょう。そして成功の暁には我々の知る世界ではなくなっていることでしょう。

AUDIO TRANSCRIPT. DR. DEVRA BOGDANOVICH TEAM WELCOME AND OPENING REMARKS, NIANTIC PROJECT SUMMIT.

Let me start by thanking you all for coming. If you've had a chance to walk around the facility, you've no doubt seen that CERN is not much to look at from the outside. But hidden within, there are amazing wonders, including our eclectic group.

There will be a full personnel briefing later this afternoon, but I wanted to take a moment to introduce the individuals that comprise the Niantic Project team. They are about to become the most important people in your life. We are artists, scientists and thinkers. We hail from diverse fields because our profound challenge requires radical thinking.

For those of you who I haven,t yet met personally, I'm Dr. Devra Bog danovich. I've been tasked to lead Niantic.

I am a theoretical quantum biologist from Stanford University, which is to say that I study quanta and how they might relate to alternate systems of life. Earlier in my career I spent some time with SETI, so, in short on bad hair days I'm the 'Aliens' guy from that TV show.

If you have a problem with me being project lead, I suggest you take it up with Dr. Ezekiel Calvin... everyone calls him Zeke, though I think he prefers ''The Doctor" ... He is our host and the reason we are all here. Dr. Calvin is the research director of a three-letter-agency of the federal government, and has been chasing the profoundly unexplainable for a long time. He saw the benefit of bringing us all together and formed the Niantic Project to further our research and understanding of Exotic Matter. Be nice to him, he is paying the bills. With your tax dollars.

By the way, most of you haven't yet met Yuen Ni, who is our ultimate benefactor and Director for the NIA. She regrets that she couldn't be with us today. Dr. Calvin will be keeping her apprised of our progress.

Next, one of the leading researchers and creative minds in quantum me chanics and a main proponent of string theory, Dr. Victor Kureze. Dr. Kureze first detected patterns in Exotic Matter energy that were previ ously unknown, and remain as of yet undefined.

Dr. Yuri Alaric Nagassa is a world- renowned astrophysicist and astronomer. Some of you may recognize him from the series he did on Discovery a few years back. He speaks fluent Russian, but the most interesting thing about him is that he grew up with an uncontacted tribe in South America. Hell of a story, one you should all ask him about over drinks later in our Tiki Bar on Level 83. The Anazktec? Am I saying that right, Yuri?

Some of you may know and already fear Dr. Martin Schubert. Dr. Schubert has a PhD in physics, and he has made a reputation out of giving other academics a hard time. As keptic, he's here to make sure we dot our i's and cross our t's. If he buys your argument, you know you did your job.

I know that many of your have already been briefed by Dr. Lynton-Wolfe, but for those that haven't, Dr- Oliver Lynton-Wolfe is a researcher and engineer with a reputation like none other. He has been tasked with turning our discoveries into something useful, making the theoretical about Exotic Matter into the practical.

Beyond the scientists in the room, we have a number of individuals with us that have been classified as "sensitives", or people who are in tune with XM energy. Probably our most famous, and some would say controver sial, is Roland Jarvis.

Artist, sculptor and enfant terrible, Jarvis is a highly sought-after creative. His commissions include public art installations around the world Roland's art routinely sells for more than I make in a decade. A collector of classic cars and super-models, I know Niantic will be en riched by his contributions.

For most of us, bravely heading into the unknown is a new experience, but not so for our next Niantic team member. Hank Johnson is an archaeologist and explorer - I think he calls himself an adventurer - who has been responsible for some of the most historically significant finds of the past decade, findings he shares through his TV series 'NOMAD.' He is also a former member of the Special Forces, and we are all so grateful for your past service, Mr. Johnson.

Our next member of the team is Stein Lightman, a self-described quantum theologian. Which as I understand it, is a merging of science and reli gion, itself a fascinating concept. Mr- Lightman has submitted a series of videos that fully explain his philosophy, and I suggest we all take a moment to study them. These are normally only available to his followers for a $1200 donation... so thank you, Mr. Lightman.

Misty Hannah is the foremost authority in sleight of hand magic. An il lusionist who routinely performs in Las Vegas, Atlantic City and New York, she is consistently cited as one of the best mentalist by her peers at the Magic Castle in Los Angeles. As Arthur C. Clarke once famously pointed out: "Any sufficiently advanced technology is indistin guishable from magic." In this regard, Ms. Hannah's insights will be in valuable in helping all of us understand the "magic" behind the science of Niantic.

Some of you have already commented on the wonderful imagery of our briefing binders. The cover iconography and symbols throughout are Carrie Campbell's work. She is a brilliant semiotician, a specialist in the area of signs and symbols. Many of the icons and interfaces you use daily on your smartphones and tablets were created by Ms. Campbell.

The XM patterns discovered by Dr. Kureze have been assessed as undeci pherable. Ms. Campbell will help Niantic change that assessment.

The man with the three thousand dollar headphones around his neck - and I know the price because I asked him - is Enoch Dalby. Mr. Dalby is a musical prodigy, a composer and sound editor currently researching the universal language of music. Enoch came to the attention of Niantic after being recommended by Ms. Campbell, as they have worked together in the past. In fact, they have described their relationship as symbtiotic synesthesia ... ask them about that later.

Now, you might think that wraps up the introductions, but there is one other individual in the room. In fact, this entity is everywhere within the Niantic research lab here at CERN, recording and documenting our work. Her name is ADA, which stands for A Detection Algorithm, and she is the most advanced, distributed machine learning system ever created.

Tomorrow you will all get a full briefing in how to communicate and in teract with ADA. While you are within CERN just remember everything you do or say is being recorded, processed and cataloged by ADA, so no sneaking late night beer into the labs...... and the PhDs in the room know that comment is addressed to them.

Finally, you may have noticed the many uniformed personnel walking through the building. The downside of cutting edge research is that we do have to assume some security risks. Jay Phillips, NIA's security chief, will ensure that we all sleep soundly at night.

Again, on behalf of myself, Dr. Calvin and the entire Niantic Project, thank you all for being part of the team and welcome . I'm confident we,re going to do great and wonderful things. And by the time we are done, the world as we understand it will be no more.

Together, we will determine what replaces it.
