このビジョンを公にしてくれた両グループへ我々は感謝せねばならないね。その始まりは先週末に世界各地で発生したアノマリーの折にゴーラックの任務へ従事したエージェントが断片化されたコードの回収を命じられたことだった。その後、調査コミュニティとオペレーション・エセックスの構成員が苦労の末に解読し、その内に秘められたメッセージを見つけ出したのだ。

そのメッセージは、直面するエキゾチックマター欠乏の謎に光を照らすものであった。シビュラがオブシディアン・シールドに潜む危険性を痛烈に訴えていたのだ。だが、それだけではない、光明がある...それは立ち込める暗雲の向こうにある希望の兆しか、あるいはトンネルの先にある光か。

諸君次第だ。

シビュラは紅く燃える石炭を前に屈み込んだ。

「手を貸して」とシビュラは言った。手を差し出すとシビュラは小さな生き物も掴み取れないようなか弱い力で握りかえすと、我が手を火中へ差し入れた。私は身を焦がす痛みを予見して顔をしかめたが、何の痛痒も感じることはなかった。代わりに我が身の周囲に変化が生じたのだ、あたかも枯れゆく木から散る花弁のように、吹き飛ぶ葉のように。

そして夜でもないのに空が闇に包まれたかに思えた。窓もない空間の天井に阻まれていたのだ。鋭利な石材で組まれた部屋だった。この不快な空間で私のそばにはシビュラの姿があったが、我々の周囲には何もなかった。足下のむき出しの大地にさえ何もなかったのだ。

「枯渇したのです、シールドによって幾つものリーミナが沈黙させられました。その内にあったものを取り去られたのです。」とシビュラが言い、私は理解に達した。頭上の空にひとつの星が煌めいていた。その星は次第に次第に眩さを増していき、空をも飲み込んだ。これは我々に死す運命をもたらすものなのかと自問した。シビュラが握る手を離すと、我々は野営地のそばへと引き戻されていた。そのビジョンは、私を大いに困惑させた。ようやく私はこの旅路が探検の旅でも発見の旅でもなく、破滅の旅であったと悟った。私は騙されていたのだ。

The first are the Agents who took part in GORUCK Operations at Anomalies around the world last weekend into order to recover scattered fragments of code. The second are the members of the Investigative Community and Operation: Essex, who painstakingly decrypted and uncovered the messagehidden within.

The message itself sheds more light on the current XM scarcity that surrounds us. It seems Cybella was sharply tuned in to the dangers that lay hidden within the Obsidian Shield -- but there's more here: A bright explosion of light... A silver lining behind a dark cloud? Or the light at the end of the tunnel?

Then Cybella hunched over the still glowing coals

"Give me your hand," she said. I reached out and she grasped me with a force that seemed impossible for so slight a creature. She plunged my hand into the fire and I winced in anticipation of the burning heat, but I felt nothing. Instead, the world around me shifted as if the petals of a flower peeling back or leavers being blown from a dying tree.

Above, the sky was dark not as night but instead as if blocked by the roof of a cave. A cave built with sharp fragments of block stone. And around us, for she stood with me in this harsh place, was nothing. A vast emptiness devoid even of the bare earth beneath our feet.

"A famine," she said. "The shield has silenced the Limina. Made them hollow." I understood. Above me in the sky a single star shone. It grew brighter and brighter and then enveloped the sky itself. I wondered to myself if this was what its dying breath would look like to us mortals. She released my hand and we were hundled onece more around the campsite. This vision had disturbed me greatly. I realized that our journey had not been one of exploration or discovery, but instead of destruction. I was betrayed.
