12時間歩き続け、前進作戦基地へと辿り着いたのは今朝のことだった。

幾分弁舌に頼ったものの受け入れてもらった。意思疎通に奮起してきたが、今後数日は温存せねばならない。追跡を受けているのかは知るよしもないことだが、追跡を困難にしてくれることだろう。エキゾチックマターの残滓を追跡することも、しばらくはできないだろう。いずれにせよ、ここ数日は春の気まぐれなのか冷え込み、粉塵が舞っていた。さて、私は南へ進路を取り、海水面を目指している。翌日かあるいは二日後には砂漠地帯を抜けオアシスへと辿り着いていることだろう。それ以上に具体的な方策はない。アズマティの死に関して私の視点から詳細を伝えておくべきだろう。少なくとも彼の親族へは伝える義務があるのだ。

その日の午後は幾らか距離を稼ぐことができた。ブラックホークに乗り込み南へと向かったのだ。そして、ヤーハンのキャラバンの姿を捉えた。低空を高速飛行すると、いくつかの車輌が駐められ彼女のそばに誰かが立っているのがわかった。アントワーヌ・スミスのような男の姿もあった。彼らは地下寺院がひしめき荘厳な彫刻の点在することで知られる地域のワジのそばに停留していた。操縦士は異なる理由からこの地域周辺に赴くことに乗り気でなかった。強く要求したものの、結局は断念せざるを得なかった。どうやら三機のヘリがこの近郊で墜落していたのだとわかったが、残念なことにこの機会を逸することとなったのだ。彼女の足取りはいずれわかることだろう。今は他にやるべきことがあるのだ。

外の世界とは素晴らしいものだ。風の薫りを嗅ぎ、光と埃に目を焼き、胸を弾ませる心臓。その地の香辛料を舌で愉しむ、それは砂漠の地でこそのことだが長い旅路は情緒に溢れている。

オリバー・リントン=ウルフの状況はわからないが、急ぎ確認したところスタイン・ライトマン、ユーリ・アラリック・ナガッサ、マーティン・シューベルトの所在がわかっておらず、推定行方不明者となっている。ヒューバート・ファーロウが生存していることはわかっているが、これは別の機会にお伝えするとしよう。

Walked for 12 hours this morning before I stumbled into a FOB.  Took some fast talking but they let me in.  Will be communicating in bursts, conserving power for the next few days. Keeps me harder to track, though I don't know if I am being actively tracked.  I also suspect that for some time they were able to track me by XM signature.  Anyway the last few days have been cold and dust with occasional moments of spring.  Now, I'm heading south and to sea level. In fact, I expect to be in a tropical oasis in what is otherwise a desert region within the next day or two. I can't be more specific than that. I feel that it is best that I deliver the details of Azmati's death in person.  I owe his family at least that much.  

Covered some ground during the later part of the day.  Caught a ride on a Black Hawk headed south.  I'm convinced I caught a glimpse of Jahan's caravan.  We were flying low and fast.  I saw some vehicles parked and someone standing nearby who can only have been her.  There was also a guy who looked like Antoine Smith.  They were stopped by a Wadi in an area known to be full of underground temples, some with magnificent carvings.  The pilot didn't want to go around for another look. I pushed him as hard as I could, but eventually had to give in.  Apparently three birds have gone down near there, so I understand, but I was unhappy to have missed the opportunity.  I'll find her trail again.  For now, I have some other business to take care of.

It is great to be out in the world again -- smelling the winds, eyes burned by the light and dust, heart pounding in my chest, tasting the spices of the region -- and for a desert, this is a world of spices that have travelled long distances to get here. 

I don't know what +Oliver Lynton-Wolfe's status is.  From what I've quickly read -- it seems that +Stein Lightman, +Yuri Alaric Nagassa and +Martin Schubert are off the radar, and potentially missing. I don't have confirmation of the others.  I do know that Farlowe is very much alive, but that's another story for another time.
