ナヴァッロのリモート・パーティシペーション実験で表沙汰となったもうひとつのアーティファクト群に地図があるね。その実験が行われた当日の話しぶりでは、誰もがそれらをゲームマップとして使っていたと聞こえるんだが、それを見て製作者の想像を上回る効果があるのではないかと強く感じ取ったよ。

一例に、いま現在のナヴァッロのキャンプ場一画、そしてスペイン人の一団がアナズクテックの戦士団と激突したと思しき状況といった二枚の地図が挙げられる。錨に気づいたかね？ナヴァッロにいた誰もがキャンプ場にまつわる数々の奇妙なことを証言してくれるだろうね。

特に私の目をひいたのは、山荘の下を這う巨大な鎖だったね。それは果たしてどこから出現したのだろうか。なぜあの場所だったのだろうか。それだけに留まらない。

とある地元の彫刻家が、その地域で伐採されたレッドウッドの6インチもの内奥からマスケット銃の弾を発見してもいるのだ。全てが100%本当のことだ。私は実際にその弾を見たし触りもしたのだからね。

それは私自身にとって何をいみするものだろうか。真実とは時として小説よりも奇なりということか。

THE FIRST JOURNEY: NAVARRO

Another interesting set of Artifacts to emerge from the Navarro remote participation exercise was a series of maps. Of course, in the wink, wink, nudge, nudge parlance of the day this exercise took place, everyone was referring to them as game maps -- but having seen them, I strongly suspect their is more at play than just some artist's imagination.

As an example, take a look at these two map views, which show a section of the current Navarro campground as well as its supposed state during an encounter between a group of Spaniards and Anazktek warriors. Notice that anchor? Well anyone who was at Navarro will attest to a number of strange things lying about the campsite.

One in particular that caught my eye was a massive chain, unraveled on the ground just below the lodge. Where did it come from? Why was it there? And that's not all...

A local carver had, some weeks prior, also found musket balls 6 inches deep in a section of redwood harvested from this area. 100% true story. I saw and handled these musket balls personally.

What does that mean to me? Truth is sometimes stranger than fiction...
