Operation Emerald Monsoon

Date: August 7, 2016
MU Count: 5.2 Billion
Number of Layered Fields: 18
Largest field 293,161,280 MU
Longest link 3,043 km

TL;DR:
A group of agents from Enlightened Sri Lanka made control fields worth 5.25 billion MU, spanning over 18 layers, linking Southern Sri Lanka, Northern India and Northern Vietnam.

Planning

Operation Emerald Monsoon was initiated right after the victory of Obsidian Colombo Satellite site, as a result of agents @painkillerSL and @nAPsJAAN desire to do something big. After numerous sketches were mapped out, the final plan was decided on and made ready to be executed on a special day.

The date was set in order to celebrate agent @painkillerSL's 2nd Ingress anniversary; the date being August 8, 2016. The base portals were "Fountain" in India and "FHS Playground" in Vietnam and for the layering portals, it was decided to use portals from Katharagama to Hambanthota in South Eastern Sri Lanka which lay along a 50km stretch.

Execution

Clearing blockers was one of the most difficult tasks in the op since the links were going through several countries. Agents in India, Thailand, Vietnam, China, Malaysia started to clear blockers one week before the execution date.
The first attempt to make the fields was on Saturday morning for the 0430 h (IST) checkpoint, but a blocker in Thailand which couldn't be cleared in time put the entire operation in doubt. The portal connected to the blocking link was about 500 km away from civilization. However, if no one recharged, it would to decay on Saturday night, so it was decided to postpone the op to the next day. On Saturday night the portal decayed as expected, but an additional blocker appeared in India. After communicating with the Indian agents it was decided to keep that blocker until the last moment.

As soon as the green light was given, agents @SLPooh, @Rosbacher, and @wrathmachine left from Colombo at about 2330h (IST) to Hambanthota town which was approximately 250 km away. Agent @painkillerSL joined the team from Hambantota. Even though the starting point was only 50km away in the area called Kataragama, the team realised that they need to take another 180 km round trip to clear some additional blockers. Even though meeting the targeted checkpoint 0530h (IST) seemed to be impossible, the team tried to reach the first set of layering portals in Kataragama as soon as possible.

The team was able to reach the destination just after the CP and decided to proceed with the plan since there was a chance that the field set will hold up for a few more checkpoints, as all the portals are in remote areas of each country.

When all was ready for execution, the op controller agent @nAPsJAAN gave the command to clear the last blocker. Unfortunately the target portal was L8 but the agent we could send was still L5. Without giving up, agent @Balesha battled with the portal for 23 minutes with his low level bursters but was finally able to complete the task.

At that moment agent @painkillerSL was able to complete a field of 291 Million MU, which was much bigger than our estimates. From then onwards the team started down the road from Katharagama, reaching Hambanthota again, Adding new fields in layers over a stretch of 50km, Layer by layer the team was able to complete 18 fields which added more than 5 Billion mind units in total, making it the biggest operation ever done using Sri Lankan portals.

Conclusion
This became the biggest operation ever done in Sri Lankan Ingress history in terms of MU, with 5.2 billion mind units captured.

The fields contributed to the global score for 10 checkpoints which brought Enlightened global score to the top.

With unanticipated high MU Count per field, @painkillerSL became the agent with the highest total MU captured in the world (without bug fields) by increasing the total mu count to 3,861,315,179 (3.8 Billion)

Agent @wrathmachine marked the largest control field ever created by a Sri Lankan agent from a Sri Lankan portal with a 293,161,280 MU field.
