昨夜明らかとなったものは、ほんの一部に過ぎないとは思っていたが、世界各地で6片からなる3ページが新たに発見された。

数多くのエージェントが文書の再編に挑み、回収された断片がトーマス・アルテアガによって文書化されるに至った。

3ページ目の断片は、ミズーリ州セントルイスにあるゲートウェイ・アーチと、インドはジャイプルにあるハワー・マハルにおいて発見された。

最後のページは、イタリアはローマにあるコロッセオと、日本は東京にある東京タワーにおいて発見された。

時間が歪む。

これはアノマリー・ゾーンだろうか。女は本当に時の向こうを覗いたのか。

その聖職衣は同じ、いけにえの短剣も同じだったが、時代が違っていた。

音も異なっていた。ドラムの音がより響き渡り、篝火が急こう配なピラミッドの外壁に紋様をを映していた。幾つかは賊にとって見知ったものだった。グリフである。更に言えば、それは超次元グリフだった。ヤーハンは目を背ける。それは強力なものであり、その影響力に抗うことは彼女にもできなかったのだ。

これは偶然なのだろうか、このグリフとその力を知っていたのだろうか、彼女は戸惑った。あの男であれば、より多くがわかったのだろうか。あの男であればどうしただろうか。

それは悟りの歪なる帰結のように思えた。グスマンは13マグナスの一人であったのかもしれないとのおぞましい可能性が脳裏をよぎった。

これは罠なのだろうか。

彼女はその可能性を黙殺した。加えて、プライム・オブジェクトだ、かのメダルは最近になってとある考古学者によって発見されたものの犯罪者へ売り払われてしまい、手に入れようと余計な手間をかける羽目になっていた。

彼女は考古学を扱うウェブサイト上でそれを目にしていたが、その記事が扱われていたのは一日限りのことだった。次の日には撤回されていたのだ。密かに古美術品の闇市場へ流れ、人知れず収蔵されてしまったことは彼女にとって一目瞭然のことだった。

買い手を突き止めるのにそれほど時間はかからなかった。彼女も知る者だった。おそらくは偽名なのだろうが、男の名はケツァルコアトル・グスマンといったか。インターポールの報告書にはグスマンとだけ挙がっており、ファーストネームは明らかとなっていない。だが、最近では自らをケツァルコアトルと呼ぶよう信者らへ言っていた。IQテック・リサーチ社のカルビンが失踪前に彼女へ提供していた文書では、グスマンは翼蛇を崇める古代の狂信的教団を基盤にして宗教を興したことを示唆していた。

グスマンはエエカコカトル・タリスマンなる学者へ資金投資していたとヤーハンは考えていた。ウィンド・ジュエルはメソアメリカ各地で見つかっているが、いまやその象徴の原初たるプライマル・オブジェクトを得ていた。

プライマル・アーティファクトを探し出そうとする際には、まず歴史を経て複製されていったものを追うことが鍵となる。その機能が複製されることはなくとも特徴は継承される。

プライマル・アーティファクトとは、特定の条件で適量のエキゾチックマターに暴露させることで最先端技術もかくやという機能を発揮する超次元物質だ。エキゾチックマターなくば単なる飾り物に過ぎない。それはバッテリーの切れたスマートフォンのようなもので、興味深くはあるが無力なものなのだ。だが、充電して起動すればスマートフォンとは魅力的な力を発揮する魔法の道具となる。

プライム・オブジェクト...エキゾチックマターやカオティックマター、或いはその適切な混合体に暴露するまでは活性を示さないそれは...21世紀の最先端をいく科学者たちをも驚嘆させた。証人ストーンを例にとれば、それはアフガニスタンの13マグナス・ネストで起動するまでは不活性なメダルに過ぎなかったわけだ。だが、それは...幾多の異次元への扉を開く鍵、圧倒的な力を発揮する武器となったのだ。意識の転送、あるいはそれをも上回る力だ。

ウィンド・ジュエルに関するどれもが、歴史を通じて産み出された幾百の複製品が、ケツァルコアトルの絵に描かれた本物のプライム・アーティファクトをもとにされていたことをヤーハンに指し示していた。そして重要な点は、それは明らかにナジアを起源としたものであったということだ。それの描かれた巻貝とは、まさに大自然の産んだ最も純粋なフィボナッチ数列であったに他ならない。無限、そして激しい螺旋だ。これ以上にナジアに相応しい表現はないだろう。

ヤーハンにとって、アステカの民がナジアに通じていたことに何の疑念も感じなかった。コルテスやコンキスタドールたちが地球上からナジアの牙城を一掃する使命を帯びて派遣されていたと確信していたからだ。

確かに、アステカ・ピラミッドとインテリトゥスの紋章にも似た髑髏祭壇は、部族民の意識を介したナジアへの崇拝と象徴を見事に現していた。

人類は自然の複雑さを純粋な情報として言葉に表現した。ハリケーン、渦潮、竜巻、火山、塵旋風、そして冥界へ堕ちることさえ。破壊と創造の繰り返し、それを無限という。

恐怖の叫びが空気を切り裂き、ヤーハンは水晶短剣のごとく意識を研ぎ澄まさせた。絶叫し抗いながらも血に染まる階段をプラミッドの頂へと連れて行かれる裸の女に目を向けた。捕らえられた敵対勢力の構成員か、群衆の嗜虐生を満足させるために用意されたここの遊女のように見えた。

ヤーハンは狙撃銃を持ち上げる。心はかき乱れていた。誰を撃とうとしているのかさえわからなかった。警備員か、女か、それともグスマンか。心を落ち着かせようと身を屈ませた。選択を誤れば目的は潰えることとなる。それは彼女自身の死をも意味していた。かつてハンク・ジョンソンがそうであったように、数ヶ月後にはいにしえの機械に囲まれた墓所で目覚めることになるだろう。あるいは自らの存在は闇に飲み込まれて終わりを遂げるのだろうか。ヤーハンは自らがどのような存在なのか理解できてはいなかった。アンチマグナスにおいて自らの師はすべての秘密を明かそうとはしなかったのだ。

女は死ぬしかないだろう。ヤーハンがここを訪れた目的はタリスマンだ。それを模造品とすり替えようというのだ。グスマンはその力を削がれ、自然の摂理が彼を滅ぼすことだろう。ヤーハンはそう確信していた。

突然の灯が火山のごとく宙を照らした。それは息絶えた狙撃手のうなじから一瞬放たれたものだった。そこにあったのは、巻貝の入れ墨であった。

ヤーハンは再び疑念を感じた。果たしてグスマンはどこまで知っているのだろうか。あの男は何者なのだろうか。そして自らは狩る側なのだろうかそれとも狩られる側なのだろうかと。

As I suspected, the piece of writing that emerged yesterday was part of something much larger. Here are the three remaining pages, discovered in 6 separate fragments around the world.

The last page was assembled from fragments recovered at the Coliseum in Rome, Italy and the Tokyo Tower in Tokyo, Japan.

Temporal discontinuity.

Was this an anomalous zone? Was she actually peering across time?

The priestly garb was real. The sacrificial dagger was real. The century was wrong.

The sound was wrong. The drums were amplified. The torches were augmented now with laser patterns projected on the steep prymid walls. Some of the shapes were familiar. The thief knew them to be Glyphs. Most specifically, they were transdimensional Glyphs. Jahan tried not to see their shapes. As powerful as she was -- even she was vulnerable to their influence.

She paused to wonder if this was accidental or whether her quarry knew of the Glyphs -- knew their powers. And if he did, what more did he know? And what side was he on?

It felt like some perverse outgrowth of Enlightenment. The chilling possibility that Guzman might be a member of 13MAGNUS crossed her mind.

This might  be a trap.

She rejected the notion. Besides, she had come too far not to claim the Prime Object -- the medallion recently found by an archaeologist and sold to a criminal.

She had read about it on an archaeological website. The article had only appeared for a day. The following day a retraction had been printed. It was obvious to her that it had been quietly sold on the antiquities black market and had vanished into the darkness of an underground collection.

It didn't take her long to discover who the buyer was, Someone known to her for some time. His improbable name was Quetzalcoatl Guzman. He was in the INTERPOL files as Guzman, first name unknown, though he had recently been telling his followers to refer to him as Quetzalcoatl. Dossiers leaked to her by Calvin at IQTech before he had disappeared suggested that Guzman was founding a religion based on an ancient cult of the feathered serpent.

Jahan had surmised that Guzman had invested part of his fortune on what was known to scholars as the Ehecacozcatl Talisman. The Wind Jewel has appeared all over Mesoamerica in various archaeological sites -- and now he had acquired the Primal Object that lay at the root of that symbolic tree.

The first key to finding a Prime XM Artifact is to look for something that has been replicated over and over in history. The function can never be replicated, but the pattern remains.

A Primal Artifact is a transdimensional object that functions like sophisticated technology when exposed to the proper amounts of XM in a specific context. Without the XM, it is simply an ornament -- interesting but powerless, like a smartphone with a dead battery being studied by a caveman. But charged and activated -- that smartphone could become a magical object of fascinating power.

Prime Objects ... inert until exposed to XM or Chaotic Matter or some precise mix of the two ... appeared equally amazing to the sophisticated scientists of the 21st century. The Shonin stone, for example, had seemed to be an inert medallion until it was activated in the 13MAGNUS nest in Afghanistan. Then, it became ... a key opening gateways to numerous other dimensions -- a weapon of unparalleled power -- a transporter of consciousness, and perhaps more.

Everything about the Wind Jewel indicated to Jahan that the hundreds of replicas and likenesses created throughout history were copies of an original Prime Artifact depicted on codex illustrations of Quetzalcoatl. And it was an important one, because it was clearly N'zeer in origin. It depicted a conch shell -- a Fibonacci Sequence in nature in it purest from. A boundless and powerful spiral. There could be no better representation of the N'zeer.

To Jahan, there was no dispute that the Aztec were in communication with the N'zeer. She believed that Cortez and the Conquistadors were specifically dispatched to destroy the last strongholds of the N'zeer on Earth and in the New World. Certainly, the pure math of the Aztec Pyramids, mixed with the skull altars resembling the Interitus symbol were a perfect illustration of N'zeer theology and symbolism as processed through the tribal human brain.

In human terms it represented the complexity of nature escaping into a realm of pure information ... Hurricanes, Whirlpools, Tornadoes, Volcanoes, Desert Devils and even the descending spiral into the underworld. In destruction and reordering: infinity.

A scream of pure human terror cut through the air and through Jahan's concentration like a quartz dagger. She turned to see a naked woman screaming and fighting as she was led up the blood-slicked steps to the top of the pyramid. Jahan knew that she was either a member of a rival cartel, an employee caught stealing or perhaps just a local prostitute being executed for the titillation of the writhing crowd.

She raised her rifle. Her concentration was broken. She didn't know who to shoot. The guards? The girl? Guzman? She ducked down to regain her center ... her composure. Any of those options could mean failure for her mission and perhaps even death. Would she awaken months in the future on a slab surrounded by ancient machinery like Hank Johnson had, or simply end her existence in a moment of sharp blackness? She could not fully understand exactly what kind of being she inhabited. Her Anti-Magnus mentors had chosen not to reveal all their secrets.

The girl would have to die. She was here for the Talisman. She would replace it with an imitation. Guzman's power would wain. The natural order of events would destroy him. She had to believe that.

A sudden burst of firelight exploded into the sky like a volvano. It lit for a moment the back of the neck of the dead sniper. On it, was a conch shell tattoo.

She wondered again how much Guzman knews. Who he was. Was she the jaguar or the prey?
